Brokerage Yacht Sales
If you are thinking of selling your boat or even trading it on a new boat, there are three main areas that will help you maximize the value of your old boat:
Location, Condition and Price
Location – Just like real estate, three important factors are Location, Location and Location. Most buyers are looking at several boats in one day and it is important to have your boat located in a major boating area where there is lots of sales activity.
Condition – A clean, well maintained boat will attract better buyers and get you more $$. It is well worth the time and expense to have your boat in top condition. The engine room should be clean as well as the bilge. Wipe down any grease/oil that has dripped down on or below the engine. If there are any leaks, corrosion, old hoses, get them replaced. Make sure all fluids are full and clean. The galley area should be squeaky clean especially around the stove and stove area. The whole boat should be in immaculate, clean condition. This is very important. If you don’t have time, we would be glad to help out or contact the right people who specialize in this type of work.
Boat sales are won and lost based on the condition of the head, and for that matter, the overall “scent” of the boat below. A bad odor leaves a bad impression. Clean-up the head and if needed add an air freshener.
An empty boat looks bigger and better than a boat crammed full of years of accumulated items. Make sure you remove all gear that does not convey with the boat. Make sure all your systems and electronics are functional and working properly, especially the items you don’t use frequently.
Price - You want to get the best possible price for your yacht, so it’s important to price it right. First, have market analysis of recent sales of similar yachts in the area, comparing condition, equipment and age of the yacht. Just like in real estate, it is very important to look at the sold price not the advertized list price. Also note how long the boat was on the market. Second, look at similar yachts currently on the market. Finally, when setting the price, leave a little room for negotiation.
