1978 Morgan Out Island Mk II aft cockpit--Bring offers!!
Boat Type: Ketch Address: Baltimore--North Point @ Old Bay Marina, MD, US Price: $18,000

Major price reduction of $7,000 on 8/30/12.   New asking price is only $18,000.  Owner has moved, and wants her sold.   Morgan 37 Out Island Mk II ketch "Loyalty" --perfect for a liveaboard or for extended or weekend cruising.  There are 5 sails in the inventory.  Powered with a Perkins 4-108 rated at 50 h.p., she cruises at 6 to 7 knots using about 1/2 gal per hour.  The Morgan 37 Out Island ketch is an aft cockpit.   The cabin layout has two staterooms, a nice galley, large salon with a huge dining table.  Settees are to port and stbd, and are very long for sleeping or napping. The dining table folds up when not in use, and has two wings so it can seat at least 6 crew.   The aft stateroom is very nice in size with a large double berth, and good headroom.  The head has a shower, ceramic wash basin/vanity, and a composting toilet (so no holding tank or odors).  The cook top and oven are Wallace diesel-fired.  And storage space on the Morgan 37 OI is very large--great for liveaboards. Headroom is 6' 4" throughout.

This Morgan 37 got a new bottom in 2007 with a layer of new glass, and an Interlux barrier coat. The hull was Awlgripped red in 1996.  The bottom was just painted with anti fouling in  July 2011.

Draft is only 4 feet, so this is a great cruising boat for shoal waters.

Sail inventory includes a fully-battened mainsail by Scott in '97;  Dutchman system; two genoas;  a North assymetrical chute, and a crisp mizzen. Roller furling is by Harken.   Primary winches are Lewmar 43 ST's.  The mainsail can be trimmed from the helm.  New mainsail cover, and new eisenglass for the dodger.

Equipment list includes:  Perkins 50 h.p. diesel;  shorepower;  inverter;  charger;  100 amp alternator;  Autohelm autopilotGarmin GPS/plotter;  solar trickle charger;  depth sounder;  apparent wind;  and VHF radio.

The owner had the bottom painted in July, 2011.  He also had a new mainsail cover made.

Vessel is USCG documented.

"Loyalty" was featured on the cover of Spin Sheet magazine  !! (see lead photo in listing of her under sail).  She is ready for her new owner(s) to start enjoying the sailing life.

Sails and rigging

The owner reports that the Morgan 37 Out Island ketch offers excellent speed when beam or broad reaching,  And when the wind builds, you can douse the mainsail, and run on the genoa and mizzen.  Not an upwind performer with her shoal draft, this design offers good hull speeds when wind is abeam.
