1988 Jarvis Newman Pettegrow Flybridge Cruiser - w/ 370 Yanmar

Price reduction of $10,000 on 10/18/13 down to $145,000. "Foxtrot" is a lovely 1988 Jarvis Newman 36 which was finished by Mac Pettegrew in Southwest Harbor, Maine. She was recently featured in articles in Offshore magazine and Chesapeake Bay magazine. It is one of the newest and nicest Jarvis Newman 36's on the market today. Her ash interior makes her light and cheerful. The headroom is 6' 7", and the many opening windows bring in light and air. The sole in the salon is sika spruce. The light bulkheads with ash trim make her feel like a Maine cabin. The inside helm has a lovely bronze and teak wheel, a Sunto binnacle compass, full electronics, and a wing door for docking and excellent visability and fresh air. The salon has a L-shaped galley, with built in cooktop, microwave/convection oven, refrigerator, and ovehead dish and glass locker.
The forward cabin has 6' 5" headroom, extra large v-berths with filler, and six bronze opening ports. Chrome Dorade vents bring in fresh air as does a deck hatch. There are two large hanging lockers, a seat for dressing, and lots of counter space. The head compartment has an electric flush head, vanity, and separate shower stall.
"Foxtrot" was repowered with a 370 Yanmar turbo diesel in '04 - '05 by Robinwood Marine in Maine. She cruises in the 12 to 16 knot range, and tops out at 19 knots. Fuel consumption averages 4 to 8 gallons per hour. Engine hours are low at 520. A bow thruster is available with controls at both helms. She also has an 8 kw Westerbeke generator, A/C-reverse cycle heat; Espar diesel-fired heat, and full keel. A 5-blade Nibral prop is fitted, and was balanced by Miller Island in 2006. Two spare props are included.
In September 2008, a new 40 amp Xantrex battery charger was installed as were two AGM 8G batteries and new battery cables. In July, 2011 she was professionally waxed, bottom painted, and the boot stripe was painted. In October-November, 2011, the exterior brightwork was refinished, new paint was added on the cabin top, and interior varnish was redone. Additionally, windshields and side windows were re-bedded.
In July-August 2011, the exterior brightwork was refinished, and the cabin sides and bulkwarks were painted. In September, 2011, the entire interior headliner was replaced with Soundown material (cost = $4,200).
The exterior brightwork was just refinished in August 2012. She is looking great and ready for her new owners. Here is a low hour, wonderful Down East yacht fully found, and ready to go. Please call for more details.

Foxtrot is one of the popular Newman 36 semi-displacement hulls, finished to very high standards by Mac Pettegrow in Southwest Harbor, Maine. She accomodates a total of four, two in the forward cabin and two in the main salon. She is a well equipped vessel and is in first class condition. Beginning at the bow, there is a chain locker (fed by a Maxwell windlass). Immediately aft is a storage locker/TV table and an extra long (7'), wide vee berth with a filler piece. Aft to port is a seat with hanging locker outboard, next aft is a larger hanging locker with shelves. The lower cabin sole is varnished teak and holly. The finish throughout the interior is in the Herreshoff style with varnished ask joinerwork and off-white bulkheads. To starboard is a very large head with a separate stall shower which has full 6'3" headroom, an electric Groco W.C., y-valve and approximately 15 gallon holding tank. The shower has Simmons "anti-scald" valve for temperature and volume control. Ventilation in the forward cabin area is provided by 6 bronze opening ports with screens, a large Lewmar hatch with screen, and two new large S/S dorade ventilators. One then steps up to the main salon which has the lower helm to starboard with a sliding, watertight access door to the side deck. Aft of the steering station is the L-shaped galley which runs full length to the aft bulkhead. The galley includes a 12V/110V Norcold under the counter refrigerator/freezer (new 2003), a three burner electric counter top stove with a Sharp microwave/convection oven located under. The sink is against the aft bulkhead with excellent storage cabinets above and below. A raised panel teak sliding door to cockpit is offset to port. Forward on the portside in the salon is a navigation station with storage locker under, and a long settee which converts to a double berth with drawers under. There is a folding dining table. The main cabin sole is varnished Sitka Spruce and has six insulated engine hatches providing good access to the engine and all systems. There are four opening windows in the salon, two with screens. All berth cushions are charcoal gray tweed. There are brass reading lamps as well as large brass dome lights overhead.

Hull & Deck
The hull is solid fiberglass below the waterline and airex cored sandwich construction above waterline. The deck and superstructure are fiberglass and 50/50, vacuum-bagged balsa core construction (totaling 1 1/2" thick). White gelcoat topsides, midnight blue sheer stripe on bulwarks and boot top. White awlgripped superstructure. Sand colored nonskid fiberglass decks; teak caprail & rubrail Cetol-finished all redone in 2005 with stainless or bronze strikers. There are bow and stern spray rails on hull. Exterior teak trim is cetoled with some varnished trim including teak moldings on cockpit gunwales, and teak hull ceiling in cockpit. After deck is laid and caulked teak with two large storage lockers. There's also a teak swim platform. Full keel, semi-displacement hull with skeg rudder.

Foxtrot was repowered in 2004 - 2005 with the very popular and reliable Yanmar 370 hp diesel.
Also completely updated in 2000 and 2003 with substantial refinishing inside and out, new hoses, pumps, and rebuilding of systems where needed, new Espar diesel heat, new Dorade vents, new reading lamps, some new electronics and much more.
This is probably the finest Custom 36 Newman ever built, with excellent sound insulation, headroom of at least 6'5"- 6'7", extra long and large vee berth, and many custom features.

She is an ideal cruiser for a couple wishing to cruise at speeds of 12-16 knots with very efficient fuel burn. This vessel would cost well over $550,000 to build new and is now offered at a very realistic price.
