Description
The Antrim 40 “XL” features a fully chined hull built using a temporary mold with developed surfaces and is optimized for Southern California windward/leeward PHRF racing as well as distance races to Mexico and Hawaii, while remaining comfortable for weekend sailing. With non-overlapping jibs and a fixed bowsprit, she is easy to sail for both racing and cruising and has been praised by crew for having one of the most ergonomic cockpit layouts they’ve ever sailed.
Originally shipped from the West Coast to compete in multiple legs of the SORC regattas in Florida, XL suffered a demasting and engine overheat while en route to Charleston, leading to the installation of a new mast and new engine. Following these upgrades, the boat was donated to the College of Charleston, where she has become a key platform for the school’s highly regarded offshore sailing program. Under the care of the College of Charleston sailing team, XL has been meticulously maintained, regularly sailed by experienced student crews, and used to train the next generation of offshore sailors. During her time with the program, she has been actively raced and has posted multiple wins within Charleston Harbor, further highlighting both the boat’s performance and the strength of the College of Charleston sailing team.
